Covid-19 India Updates: Fresh Cases Remain At The 25,000-Mark

India's daily Covid-19 infection rate remained steady at 25,000 for the second day in a row, even as an impending third wave looms over the country, threatening to stall economic activity.

As many as 25,467 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update on Aug. 24.

Recoveries exceeded fresh cases by a huge margin, helping take the active case load down to 3.19 lakh, which is the lowest in 156 days.

Active cases currently account for less than 1% of total cases.

A new study by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Energy University and Nirma University said that the country's daily infection rate may cross 6 lakh if the pace of vaccination is not boosted. The study was cited by the National Institute of Disaster Management in its report to the Prime Minister's Office.
