Covid-19 India Updates: Fresh Cases In A Day Climb Back Above 45,000

Fresh cases of Covid-19 in India climbed back above 45,000, at a time authorities approved a fourth vaccine for emergency use in India.

Nearly 46,000 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on June 30. More than 60,000 patients recovered during the same period, taking active infections lower to 5.3 lakh.

The daily fatality rate remained below 1,000 for a third day in a row. 817 patients succumbed to the deadly pathogen, taking the nation’s total death toll above 3.98 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Drugs Controller General of India issued emergency use authorisation to Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine, the first internationally developed shot, said NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul.

Moderna becomes the fourth coronavirus vaccine to get approval for restricted use in India. The country will soon close a deal with Pfizer for its vaccine as well, Paul added, according to ANI.
