Covid-19 India Updates: Active Infections At 14 Lakh As New Cases Continue To Drop

New cases of Covid-19 in India continued to fall in a respite for the country’s healthcare system that was ravaged by a deadly second wave of the virus.

Just over 1 lakh people tested positive for the deadly pathogen in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on June 7. Recoveries during the same period remained significantly higher at 1.74 lakh.

As a result, active infections fell to 14 lakh.

Daily fatality rate dropped below 2,500 for the first time since April 23. India’s total Covid-19 death toll now stands at almost 3.5 lakh.

India Reverses Vaccine Policy, Centre To Procure Doses For All Age Groups

The Indian government will procure 75% of the Covid-19 vaccines and distribute it to states for free—a reversal of its earlier policy that asked the states to buy the doses for the 18-44 age group.

The new policy will come into effect from June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a broadcast today.
