Fresh Covid-19 infections in India remained below the 1-lakh-mark for the fourth day in a row but, daily fatality rate remains elevated.

91,700 people tested positive for the deadly pathogen in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on June 11. Recoveries during the same period remained higher at nearly 1.35 lakh, taking active infections lower to 11.2 lakh.

More than 3,400 patients succumbed to the illness in the same period, taking the country’s total death toll to 3.63 lakh.

Experts have maintained that India’s case and fatality figures are vastly under-counted, especially in rural areas where record-keeping is patchy. Confirming suspicions, Bihar Health Department on Wednesday revised its official death toll to a level 72% higher than previously reported. Accounting for the revision, India recorded the highest number of fatalities in a day on Thursday.
