Mumbai Reports 50% More Cases Than Previous Day
Mumbai reported 100 cases in the last 24 hours, according to an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. 98% of those, however, were found to be asymptomatic.
Mumbai, which lifted masking mandates on April 1, 2022, reported 56 cases yesterday, out of which 95% were asymptomatic cases.
While active cases in the city now stand at 637, 15 out of 26,009 beds currently remain occupied by Covid-19 patients.
Covovax Available For Children In India, Says Poonawalla
Covovax, produced by Serum Institute of India Ltd., is now available for children in India, Adar Poonawalla, chief executive of the company, tweeted. The vaccine is sold in Europe and has an efficacy rate of more than 90%, he said.
Serum Institute produces Covovax under licence from American biotech company Novavax.
The company reduced the price of the Covovax dose from Rs 900 to Rs 225, excluding taxes, PTI reported.
The change in price came one day after Covovax was included on CoWIN portal for inoculation of children between ages 12-17.
Global Update
The total number of coronavirus infections in the world have exceeded 51.4 crore with over 62.4 lakh people losing their lives to the Covid-19 disease.
However, with the biggest vaccination campaign underway, more than 1160 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered throughout the world, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The vaccination data also showed that roughly four crore doses are being administered throughout the globe on a daily basis.
India's fresh Covid-19 cases dropped below 3,000 as daily recoveries outpaced new infections.
The nation reported 2,568 new infections and 20 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to an update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at 8 a.m. on May 3. One-day recoveries stood at 2,911, surpassing new cases first time since April 11.
While most Indian states have relaxed strict Covid-19 rules, an increase in active cases in the country may prompt a re-imposition of mask mandates.
