Confirmed cases of Covid-19 in India crossed 83.6 lakh as daily infections topped 50,000 after 10 days.
Authorities reported more than 50,200 new cases and over 55,300 recoveries in a matter of 24 hours, taking active cases to 5.28 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 5.
Active cases showed a sharp decline after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. They now account for less than 7% of the total caseload.

Denmark found a new strain of Covid-19 after an outbreak in the country’s mink population, potentially hampering efforts to develop a vaccine. A U.K. official said the government is struggling to stock up on supplies of a shot being developed by AstraZeneca Plc and Oxford University.
Globally, cases surpassed 47.9 million with more than 1.22 million dead.
