India’s total Covid-19 tally crossed 57 lakh even as the pace of the pandemic’s spread slowed down.
The country added over 86,000 new cases in a matter of 24 hours taking the total tally above 57.3 lakh in Asia's third-largest economy, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Sept. 24. This includes more than 46.7 lakh patients who have recovered and over 91,000 deaths.
Key Figures
- Total number of confirmed coronavirus cases: 57,32,518
- Active cases: 9,66,382
- Cured/discharged/migrated: 46,74,987
- Deaths: 91,149
- Number of fresh cases in last 24 hours: 86,508
- One-day recoveries: 87,374
- One-day deaths: 1,129
This is the sixth straight day that recoveries have been more than fresh cases leading to a drop in active cases to 9.66 lakh -- just 17% of the total case load. Recoveries make up 81% of the tally, while the fatality rate remains below 1.6%.
Fresh cases of Covid-19 in India seem to have dropped off its peak witnessed earlier this month with authorities reporting less than 90,000 infections for four straight days. The daily recovery rate too dropped below 90,000 after recording a peak of over one lakh on Tuesday.
