Confirmed cases of Covid-19 hit another milestone in India albeit at a slower pace, at a time when western countries are seeing renewed waves of the infection and consequent lockdowns.

India added over 44,000 fresh cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 86.3 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 10.

This took active cases to below the 5-lakh mark for the first time since July 28.

Daily additions have remained below 50,000 for four days now, restricting the rise in active cases, which climbed above 10 lakh in mid-September. Naturally, the daily recoveries have also declined but have managed to remain higher than fresh cases.

Total recoveries have now crossed 80 lakhs, making up for 92.7% of India’s total Covid-19 caseload. Active cases account for a mere 5.72% of the pie.

The resurgent virus also continued its deadly spread across Europe, with France and Italy reporting the most fatalities since April. Lebanon announced a nationwide lockdown, and Moscow adopted a raft of new restrictions as the number of new infections surged.
