Coronavirus India Updates: Tally Tops 82 Lakh; Active Cases Fall To Lowest Since July 31
India’s coronavirus outbreak showed signs of slowing down as the country reported less than 50,000 daily cases for over week.
India added over 45,231 new cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 82 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 2. This includes over 1.22 lakh deaths and 7.54 lakh patients who have recovered.
The slower pace of daily infections and an improved recovery rate have led to a sharp decline in active cases. It fell below the 6-lakh mark, on Friday, for the first time since Aug. 6 after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. Active cases now account for less than 8% of the total caseload.
The daily death rate too has eased. Authorities today reported less than 500 deaths in 24 hours, for the second straight day.
