Active Cases Continue To Rise In India

India reported more than 1 lakh Covid-19 infections for the fifth consecutive day, even as the government seeks to expand its inoculation drive to include workplaces.

More than 1.50 lakh people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours --the most in any single day -- according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8:00 a.m. on April 11.

Active cases stand above 11 lakh for the first time ever.

Vaccination Drive In India

The government has launched 5-day campaign to speed-up the vaccination drive in the country. The Tika Utsav is aimed at citizens above the age of 45 years to get vaccinated.

More than 1 lakh crore vaccines have been administered in India so far, according to data compiled by the John Hopkins University and Bloomberg.

Strict Measures Across The Various States

Governments like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have imposed weekend lockdowns across the state in a bid to try and curb the spread of the virus.

Maharashtra continues to be one of the most affected states, with the local administration warning of running short on essential supplies like oxygen and vaccines.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also imposed stricter measures ahead of Navratri celebrations.
