Coronavirus India Updates: More Than 1 Lakh New Infections For The Third Consecutive Day

India reported more than 1 lakh Covid-19 infections for the third consecutive day, at a time the government seeks to expand its inoculation drive to include workplaces.

More than 1.3 lakh people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours --the most in any single day -- according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8:00 a.m. on April 9.

Active cases stood near 9.8 lakh for the first time since September last year.

Daily fatalities due to the disease rose to 780, the highest in nearly six months.

India has administered more than 9.4 crore vaccination shots since the immunisation drive began in January, with 37 lakh beneficiaries receiving the shot in just the last 24 hours.

The government will allow vaccines to be administered at private and public workplaces that have more than 100 eligible beneficiaries, starting April 11. Vaccination will still be limited to those above 45 years of age.

Delhi Schools To Remain Shut Until Further Orders

The Delhi chief minister ordered all schools to remain shut until further orders amid rising Covid-19 infections.

All schools, state-run and private, in the national capital will remain closed for all classes till further orders, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
