Covid-19 infections neared the 2.8-lakh mark on Wednesday, as India continues to ease restrictions imposed during the two-month lockdown.
The world’s second-most populous nation added 9,985 fresh cases in the 24 hours preceding the Health Ministry’s 8 a.m. update on June 10, taking the total tally to 2,76,583. This includes 7,745 deaths and 1,35,206 patients who have recovered.
Authorities reported 274 deaths and 5,893 recoveries during the same 24 hours.

Indian authorities have reported more than 9,000 fresh cases for the seventh straight day.
For two days now, the Health Ministry has provided revised figures of recoveries, deaths and active cases recorded in a day, for the previous day. The one-day charts shows in the blog reflect revisions.
Even as confirmed cases continue to mount in India, the process of lifting the lockdown has begun.
Malls, restaurants and religious places are open as the government aims to revive the economy that’s headed for its first full-year contraction in more than four decades. India was already growing at its slowest pace in over a decade when the virus struck. The lockdown, effective March 25, made it worse, stalling all business activity.
States like West Bengal and Maharashtra extended the lockdown till June 30, but with certain relaxations for business operations in place.
Global Update
Coronavirus cases in the U.S. rose at the slowest daily pace since March. New York City reached a milestone on testing, while some of its suburban areas entered the second phase of reopening.
South Asia cases have increased at the fastest rate globally in the past week, as the region becomes one of the latest pandemic hot spots.
A top World Health Organization official clarified the group’s statement on silent virus spreaders a day after saying asymptomatic transmission is “very rare,” commenting that it had been misunderstood and it’s still unclear how readily the coronavirus is spread by people who don’t develop symptoms.

Maharashtra Says 70% Of Patients Who Died Had Co-Morbidity
Seven out of ten coronavirus-related deaths in the state of Maharashtra occurred in patients who had co-morbid symptoms like diabetes or hypertension, the state’s health department said in a report.
The state has recorded 3,289 deaths—the highest in India.
Human Rights Commission Issues Notices To Health Ministry, Delhi Government
The National Human Rights Commission of India on Wednesday issued notices to the health ministry and the Delhi government over a complaint filed by Congress leader Ajay Maken, alleging shortage of beds for Covid-19 patients in the national capital, officials said.
The NHRC has taken cognisance of the complaint filed by the Congress leader, they said. Accordingly, notices have been issued to the Delhi government and the Union Health Ministry, a senior official said.

Rajasthan Restricts Interstate Movement
The Rajasthan government on Wednesday imposed restrictions on interstate movement of people because of a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.
People seeking to move out of the state will have to obtain a pass while personal IDs of those entering Rajasthan in private buses, taxis or personal vehicles will be checked and they shall be screened, an order issued by the Home Department said.
Those reaching the state in scheduled domestic flights, trains or buses have already been through various safety protocols before boarding and they will be screened again on arrival at the destination airports, railway stations and bus stands in Rajasthan, the order said.
As per the Home Department's order, on spot passes will be provided by the district administration through a counter set up at airports, railway stations and bus stands after verification of IDs. Persons applying for passes at such counters will have to reach there well in advance before the time of departure.
Those travelling by scheduled flights, trains, state roadways buses with prior reservations on Wednesday and personal emergency cases like deaths or accidents in the immediate family or immediate need for hospitalisation, have been exempted from passes for travelling out of the state.

Doctors Without Borders Sets Up Temporary Covid-19 Hospital In Patna
International medical humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders on Wednesday said it has set up a 100-bed temporary hospital for treatment of Covid-19 patients in Patna in collaboration with the Bihar government.
This facility at Patliputra Sports complex in Patna will be fully managed by Doctors Without Borders in India.
It will provide medical care to patients with moderate symptoms, hence, decongesting dedicated government Covid -19 treatment hospitals to focus on severe cases, Doctors Without Borders said in a statement.
Managed by 180 Doctors Without Borders staff from across the country, this hospital will offer inpatient care, mental health support, access to all essential drugs and medical supplies to manage moderate cases and oxygen supply through face masks to support patients with breathing difficulties, it added.
The indoor stadium was remodeled by Doctors Without Borders to become a temporary hospital with facilities like triage, isolation, personal protection equipment, and infection prevention and control measures.
"Responding to emergencies is at the core of what Doctors Without Borders/Mdecins Sans Frontires does we are putting our knowledge and experience in epidemic management to help mitigate the impact of Covid-19 in Bihar state," Doctors Without Borders India Country Director Dr Prince Mathew said.
This pandemic affects us all. For this reason, the response needs teamwork, he added.

Delhi’s Covid-19 Tally Tops The 30,000-Mark
The number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in Delhi crossed the 30,000-mark and pace of increase has quickened as India eases lockdown restrictions. Home to 20 million people, the city is showing a rapid increase in the number of viral infections and is catching up with Mumbai which to date has more than 50,000 cases—the most among Indian cities.
Delhi added 1,366 cases, taking the total count to 31,309 in the national capital, according to an update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said the number of infections in the capital is expected to touch the 5 lakh-mark by July-end.
