Coronavirus India Updates: New Covid-19 Cases Below 50,000 For A Week Now, Daily Deaths Lowest Since July
India’s coronavirus outbreak showed signs of slowing down as the country has reported less than 50,000 daily cases for a week now. Meanwhile, the daily death toll fell to a near four-month-low.
India added over 46,963 new cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to 81.8 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 1. This includes over 1.22 lakh deaths and 7.49 lakh patients who have recovered.
The slower pace of daily infections and an improved recovery rate have led to a decline in active cases. It fell below the 6-lakh mark, on Friday, for the first time since Aug. 6 after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. Active cases now account for less than 8% of the total caseload.
New cases of Covid-19 in India have remained below 50,000 for the last seven days now.
Deaths, too, fell. India’s reported 470 deaths in the last 24 hours on Nov. 1. That’s the lowest death toll the country has reported since July 7.
This comes at a time shoppers continue to throng the streets in urban India amid a festive season which began with Navaratri and Durga Puja.
