Coronavirus India Updates: Tally Tops 1 Crore, Maharashtra Announces Night Curfew
The spread of Covid-19 in India continued to slow down officially even as the number of confirmed cases crossed 1 crore in the world’s second-most populous nation.
The south Asian nation reported over 24,000 fresh infections in 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Dec. 21, adding to the 1 crore tally that it crossed on Saturday.
New infections have remained below 30,000 for over a week now, a significant improvement from the daily tally of nearly 1 lakh reported in mid-September. Active cases have fallen below the 3.1-lakh mark.

Sydney’s 5 million residents are being asked to curb activities over the next few days amid a growing outbreak, while Thai authorities closed a seaside province near Bangkok following a record spike in new cases.
Inoculations with Moderna Inc.’s vaccine are likely to begin Monday in the U.S. after receiving regulatory approval. Congressional leaders reached a deal on a roughly $900 billion plan spending package to help the U.S. economy weather the coronavirus pandemic.
Globally, over 76.7 million coronavirus cases have been confirmed and over 1.69 million people have succumbed to the virus.
Maharashtra Announces Night Curfew
Maharashtra will impose a night curfew in civic areas from Dec. 22 to Jan.5 in the wake of a new mutated variant of the virus spread in Britain.
