Global Update

Beijing reported fewer additional local coronavirus infections, in a further sign that a recent outbreak is coming under control. The government last week declared that the peak has passed for the recent outbreak in the capital, the country’s worst since Wuhan, the city where the pathogen first appeared.

Anthony Fauci, the U.S. government’s top infectious-disease expert, told Congress he was seeing a “disturbing surge” of cases.

Globally total cases passed 9.1 million while deaths topped 474,000.
