Coronavirus India Updates: Covid-19 Tally Near 8.8 Lakh; Over 23,000 Dead

The pace of Covid-19 infections across India is only increasing as authorities report yet another all-time high of fresh cases added over a day.

The nation added 28,701 cases in just 24 hours to take the total tally to near 8.8 lakh, according to the Health Ministry’s 8 a.m. update on July 13. Of these, more than 5.5 lakh have been cured or discharged. It now has over 3 lakh active cases.

India has added 1.42 lakh cases in the last five days.

With the unabated rise in cases, India is now planning a countrywide survey to determine the level of outbreak. At the same time, a number of cities are districts are either considering or imposing renewed partial lockdowns.

Global Update

U.S. virus cases rose to 3.27 million with almost 56,000 new infections, less than the one-week average daily increase. Even so, Florida broke the daily record for all U.S. states with more than 15,000 new cases. Hong Kong reported 38 new cases on Sunday, feeding fears of a resurgence in the Asian financial hub after weeks of near-normal activity. The government has been re-imposing restrictions in response. New cases in Tokyo exceeded 200 for the fourth straight day.

Globally, total cases have topped 12.8 million with over 568,000 of them dead.
