Mumbai To Close Vaccinations For Three Days Due To Shortage
Vaccination centres in Mumbai will remain closed for till May 2 due to a shortage of doses.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said citizens above 45 years of age, who have registered, will be vaccinated for sure. The planned vaccination drive for those above 18 years of age is also likely to be delayed due to the shortage, it said.
The municipal body has also appealed to citizens to not crowd the vaccination centres when coming to receive their shots.
Maharashtra Extends Restrictions Till May 15
Maharashtra today said that the existing restrictions in place to tackle Covid-19 will now stay in effect till May 15, 2021.
An order by the state government said that Maharashtra continues to be threatened by the spread of the virus in hence it is necessary to continue to current restrictions.
The state's original order over the restrictions was due to be expired on May 1.
Bharat Biotech To Reduce Covaxin Price For States
Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech Ltd. said it will offer states its indigenously developed Covaxin for Rs 400 per dose, lower than the Rs 600 announced earlier.
The move comes a day after Pune-based Serum Institute of India, which is manufacturing Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine, said it will reduced the price it will charge states to Rs 300 per dose from Rs 400 earlier.
Active Covid-19 infections in India crossed 30 lakh for the first time ever, as an unprecedented outbreak continued to rip through the world’s second-most populous nation.
Nearly 3.8 lakh people tested positive for the virus in a 24-hour period, the highest number of fresh cases in any country in any day, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on April 29.
3,645 patients succumbed to the illness in just 24 hours, marking the deadliest day in India’s struggle with the pandemic. That took the total death toll near 2.05 lakh.

Pune-based Serum Institute of India, which is manufacturing the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, has said it will lower the price of doses for states to Rs 300 from Rs 400 earlier.
“This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives,” Chief Executive and Owner Adar Poonawalla said on Twitter, adding that it was a “philanthropic gesture”.
India will begin the third phase of its immunisation programme on May 1, when everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible for the shot.
