Coronavirus India Updates: Fresh Cases Top 28,000 For First Time In Three Months
Fresh cases of Covid-19 in India rose to the highest in three months taking active infections above 2.3 lakh once again.
Authorities detected 28,900 new cases in the last 24 hours, the most since Dec. 13, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on March 17. The country reported about 17,700 recoveries in the same period.
188 people lost their lives to the disease in a day, the highest in two months, taking the total coronavirus-related fatalities to above 1.59 lakh.

A central team that visited Maharashtra recommended that Covid-19 containment mechanism should be reinstated to the level witnessed in August-September 2020 to limit transmission of the virus in the second wave. “The absence of rigorous tracing, testing and containment is leading to sustained community transmission,” the team said in a report.
Meanwhile, India has administered more than 3.5 crore vaccination shots since the immunisation drive began in January. Over 21 lakh beneficiaries were given the jab in just the last 24 hours.
