New cases of Covid-19 in India declined for the third day bringing the country’s active caseload below 37 lakh for the first time in a week.

More than 3.26 lakh people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s 8 a.m. update on May 15. During the same period there were 3.53 lakh recoveries.

Lower cases may have been due to a fall in testing numbers. India conduction 16.9 lakh tests on May 14, lower than the 18-19 lakh tests it had done for the previous three days.

Daily deaths fell below the 4,000-mark as 3,890 people succumbed to the disease. India's total death toll stands at 2.66 lakh.

To be clear, data on Covid cases and related deaths may be severely deficient as several states have inadequate testing, chronic underreporting and have been reportedly concealing such data by attributing the casualties to other causes.
