Coronavirus India Updates: Covid Caseload Hits 84.6 Lakh; Death Toll Crosses 1.25 Lakh

Confirmed cases of Covid-19 continued to rise in India albeit at a slower pace with only a handful of states seeing a significant rise in active cases.
Authorities reported 50,356 new cases and over 53,920 recoveries in a matter of 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s 8 a.m. update. This took active cases to 5.16 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country.
Active cases showed a sharp decline after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. They now account for 6.1% of the total caseload.

Global Update
Globally, cases crossed 4.92 crore leaving over 12.4 lakh dead, as of Saturday morning.
The U.S. had more than 120,000 new cases for the second day in a row, and Illinois, Ohio, Nebraska and North Dakota were among states to report record new case numbers. Hospitalizations may be headed for all-time highs, and deaths are mounting as the presidency hangs in the balance.
New York reported the most new cases since early May, and Mayor Bill de Blasio said New York City is “really threatened with a second wave.” The World Health Organization said six countries, including the U.S., have found the virus in farmed minks.
England, which began a lockdown this week, said the virus’s spread is slowing. France reported a record for the third time in a week and Italy’s infections spiked as new lockdowns began.

India's Covid-19 Death Toll Crosses 1.25-Lakh Mark
India's coronavirus death toll climbed to 1,25,562 with 577 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
Globally, India trails only the U.S. and Brazil in Covid-19 deaths.
