Coronavirus India Updates: Active Cases Cross 2 Lakh Again, New Cases Highest Since Dec. 24

Vaccination Drive Gathers Pace

The Health Ministry said on Saturday that more than 20 lakh vaccine doses against the coronavirus were administered across the country the previous day, the highest single-day count so far.

India recorded a significant milestone in its countrywide Covid-19 vaccination drive which started on Jan. 16. More than 20 lakh vaccine doses were given on Day-56 of the vaccination drive (March 12) through 30,561 sessions.

As many as 16,39,663 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 4,13,874 such people received the second shot on Friday, the Press Trust of India reported.

Active Cases Cross 2 Lakh Again, New Cases Highest Since Christmas Eve

India saw nearly 25,000 new Covid-19 cases in the 24-hour period reported by the Ministry of Health at 8 am on March 13. That is the highest since Dec. 24, 2020, and has sent the active case load in the country back over 2 lakh.

In total, there were 24,882 new cases, with 19,957 recoveries and 140 deaths in the last 24 hours.
