Fresh Covid-19 infections in India remained below the 1-lakh-mark for the sixth day in a row but, the daily fatality rate remained elevated.

Nearly 81,000 people tested positive for the deadly pathogen in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on June 12. That's the lowest number of new cases since April 1. The daily positivity rate is at 4.25%, less than 10% for 20 consecutive days.

Recoveries during the same period remained higher at nearly 1.32 lakh, keeping active infections below the 11-lakh-mark. More than 3,300 patients succumbed to the illness in the same period, taking the country’s total death toll to 3.7 lakh.

Experts have maintained that India’s case and fatality figures are vastly under-counted, especially in rural areas where record-keeping is patchy. Confirming suspicions, Bihar Health Department on Wednesday revised its official death toll to a level 72% higher than previously reported. Accounting for the revision, India recorded the highest number of fatalities in a day on Thursday.

Delhi Lifts Lockdown From June 14, Malls And Markets Allowed To open

Under the phased unlock process, reopening of restaurants with 50% capacity and one weekly market per municipal zones will be allowed from June 14, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.

However, certain activities and services like schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutes, political, social, cultural, religious and festival gatherings, cinemas, multiplexes, swimming pools, gyms, and public parks and gardens will remain closed, he said.

The religious places in the city will also reopen but no visitors will be allowed.

The markets, malls and market complexes allowed to reopen on odd-even basis will now open every day from 8 am to 10 pm, he said.

Kejriwal said the Covid situation in Delhi has significantly improved and the number of cases have also declined. He, however, warned if cases increased restrictions will have to be reimposed.
