Government To Review Travel Status

A day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought to review the easing of international travel plans, India's Union Home Ministers attended an emergency meeting chaired by the home secretary.

The decision of resumption of scheduled commercial international passengers in India will be reviewed, as the world's second-most populous country seeks to contain the spread of the new covid variant.

As for now, India has not imposed any travel bans or restrictions from countries having a large number of Covid-19 cases due to the 'Omicron' coronavirus variant.

India recorded less than 10,000 fresh cases in 24 hours with concerns over the new Omicron variant lingering around the world.

India added 8,774 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 28.

Key Figures

  • Total confirmed cases: 34,56,3749

  • Total number of active cases: 1,05,691

  • Total patients cured/discharged/migrated: 3,39,98,278

  • Total deaths: 4,68,554

  • Number of fresh cases in last 24 hours: 8,774

  • One-day recoveries: 9,481

  • One-day deaths: 621

Meanwhile, India has vaccinated over 121.9 crore people with over 82.8 lakh doses administered in a single day, the Health Ministry data showed. Total number of Covid-19 tests done in the previous day 10.9 lakh.

While concerns of the new Covid-19 'Omicron' variant is pushing countries like the U.S., Canada, U.K. as well as nations from the European Union to temporarily ban flights from Africa, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked officials to review plans towards easing international travel.

On the other hand, India will resume to supply it's Covishield vaccines, a derivative of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, developed by Serum Institute of India, to Covax countries from Monday.
