India's new Covid-19 cases fall but single-day deaths rise.

Fresh Covid-19 cases in India declined but single-day deaths rose even as recoveries outnumbered new infections.

India added 12,509 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, with the tally rising above to 3.43 crore in the world’s second-most populous country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 6. Active cases remain below 1.5 lakh.

Key figures:

  • Total confirmed cases: 3,43,44,683

  • Total number of active cases: 1,46,950

  • Total patients cured/discharged/migrated: 3,37,37,468

  • Total deaths: 4,60,265

  • Number of fresh cases in last 24 hours: 10,929

  • One-day recoveries: 12,509

  • One-day deaths: 392

As of 8 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2021

Meanwhile, India has vaccinated more than 107.7 crore people, with 20,75,942 doses administered in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data showed.

The World Health Organization has also granted emergency use authorisation for Bharat Biotech Ltd.'s Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin.

Bulk of the doses administered in India were that of Serum Institute of India’s Covishield, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. Russia’s Sputnik V has been administered in small numbers. While shots from Johnson & Johnson and Moderna Inc. have been granted approval, they aren’t being used as of now. The country has also granted emergency-use approval to its first DNA-based three-dose vaccine developed by Cadila Healthcare Ltd.

Global Update:

Globally, the coronavirus cases have topped 24.85 crore, with more than 50 lakh deaths. Over 710 crore vaccine doses have been administered across the world.
