Over 2,000 New Cases In Maharashtra, No New Omicron Cases

Maharashtra has reported 2,172 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 11,492 in the state.

No new Omicron case was reported, however, and the total tally of 167 in the state remains unmoved.

Punjab Bans Entry At Public Places For Unvaccinated, Partially Vaccinated Individuals

The government of Punjab has banned the entry of individuals who are not vaccinated or only partially vaccinated in public places from Jan. 15.

Public transport, malls, religious places, shopping complexes among others are out of bounds for those who have either one or both doses pending.

Fresh 'Yellow Alert' Restrictions Announced For Delhi

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has issued fresh restrictions for the city amid rising coronavirus cases.

  • Night curfew from 10 p.m.-5 a.m., but no weekend curfew

  • Restaurants allowed with 50% capacity from 8 a.m.-10 p.m., and bars allowed with 50% capacity from 12 p.m.-10 p.m.

  • Private offices to function with 50% staff (between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) barring those designated as essential services.

  • Metro, interstate buses to function with 50% capacity

  • Malls and shops to remain open on odd-even basis between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., online deliveries can continue.

  • Standalone shops and markets in residential colonies are allowed between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and are exempt from odd-even rule

  • Hotels and lodges to open with condition that no banquets/conferences are allowed.

  • Cabs/autos/e-rickshaws allowed with up two passengers.

What’s not allowed in Delhi?

  • Schools, colleges, library, educational/training/coaching institutions to be closed.

  • Cinema halls, theatre, multiplexes, auditoriums, assembly halls or similar places to be closed.

  • Spa and wellness clinic, swimming pools, gyms, and yoga centres to be closed. Only outdoors yoga allowed.

  • Religious, political, social, festival-related gatherings and congregations not allowed but religious places can stay open with no visitors.

  • Entertainment parks, amusement parks, water parks and similar places to be closed.

Election Workers To Be Included In Frontline Workers, Senior Citizens With Co-Morbidities Needn't Carry Illness Proof

Senior citizens with co-morbidities, for whom booster doses will be available starting Jan. 10, will not be required to submit any certificate from the doctor at the time of administration of precaution dose, ANI reported citing the Health Ministry.

It added that all personnel on election duty in poll-bound states will also be included in the category of frontline workers.

Delhi To Impose Fresh Curbs Amid Rising Positivity Rate

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said fresh curbs will be imposed as positivity rate in the state for coronavirus has been above 0.5% for the last two to three days.

A yellow alert has been issued according to the Graded Action Plan and fresh curbs will be imposed. A detailed order on the restrictions will be issued soon, Kejriwal said.

Health Ministry Gives Approval To Use Corbevax, Covovax Vaccines And Molnupiravir Drug For Covid Treatment

The government has given three approvals in a single day for Corbevax vaccine, Covovax vaccine and anti-viral drug Molnupiravir, Mansukh Mandaviya minister of health and family welfare Tweeted. Approval applicable for restricted use in emergency situation.

Corbevax is India's first indigeneously developed Receptor-Binding Domain protein sub-unit vaccine against Covid-19, made by Biological-E.

The Nanoparticle Vaccine, Covovax, will be manufactured by Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India.

Molnupiravir will be manufactured by 13 companies for restricted use under emergency situation.

Omicron Updates

India's Omicron tally jumped to 653, including 186 recoveries. The nation has added 75 fresh cases of the new Covid-19 variant in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra reported the highest number of Omicron cases, closely followed by Delhi.

India's active Covid-19 cases fell for the fifth straight day as fresh cases lag daily recoveries even as Omicron continues to spread rapidly in the world's second-most populous country.

The nation reported as many as 6,358 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Dec. 28. That compares with nearly 6,450 recoveries during the period.
