Delhi's Omicron Tally At 10, Reports Most Covid-19 Cases In 137 Days
Delhi reported its highest single day rise in the last 137 days, as 85 new Covid-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours.
The national capital's active case tally is now at 475, according to the state health department's bulletin,
The city-state has reported ten cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus so far.
India's active coronavirus cases fell for the sixth straight day even as the new Omicron variant spreads in the world's second-most populous nation.
As many as 7,974 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Dec. 16. That compares with nearly 7,948 recoveries during the period.
India's active caseload accounts for 0.25% of the total tally.
The nation's daily positivity rate stood at 0.57%. It has stayed less than 2% for the last 73 days. The weekly positivity rate at 0.64% remained below 1% for the last 32 days.
Four More Omicron Cases Found In Kerala
Four more Omicron cases were detected in Kerala on Wednesday and with this the state’s tally has reached five, State Health Minister Veena George said.
“Among the total four cases reported, two have come into contact with the first positive case reported in Kochi. The third person is from Ernakulam who had come from Congo and the fourth case has been reported from Thiruvananthapuram, who had come from the U.K.” the minister added.
India’s total tally of cases with new coronavirus variant currently stand at 66.
Security was tightened in Mumbai after the Maharashtra government imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the city up to midnight of New Year's eve, in the wake of Omicron cases in the state, ANI reported. The state’s Omicron tally stood at 32 as of Wednesday.
"Will take action if Covid-appropriate behaviour is not be followed by people," said MIDC police inspector Nasir Kulkarni.
