India's active covid case load continued to drop even as concerns around the new variant Omicron loom.
7,774 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Dec. 12. That compares with nearly 8,464 recoveries during the period.
Active cases fell to 92,281, the lowest since March 2020, accounting for 0.27% of the country's total tally.

Omicron Cases Found In Karnataka, Chandigarh
A man tested positive for Omicron variant of the Coronavirus in Chandigarh and third case of variant has been detected in Karnataka.
A 20-year-old man from Italy who landed in India on Nov. 22, and was diagnosed with Covid on Dec. 1, has tested positive for Omicron variant, the Chandigarh health department said.
“A 34-year-old male returning from South Africa has tested positive,” Karnataka Health Minister Sudhakar K tweeted. “He is isolated and being treated in a government hospital. Five primary and 15 secondary contacts have been traced and samples sent for testing.”
In Andhra Pradesh, a 34-year-old foreign traveller who came from Ireland and had tested positive for Omicron in Visakhapatnam, has now tested negative. “There are no other Omicron cases in the state,” State’s Director of Public Health said.
