India added the fewest coronavirus cases in nearly eight weeks, offering a breather to the nation’s healthcare system struggling with a shortage of critical infrastructure and vaccines.
Nearly 1.32 lakh people tested positive for the deadly pathogen in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on June 4. Recoveries during the same period remained significantly higher at 2.07 lakh, taking active infections below 17 lakh in the world’s second-most infected nation.
Daily fatality rate, too, dropped below 3,000 for the third time this week. 2,713 patients succumbed to the illness, taking the total Covid-19 related death toll near 3.40 lakh.
