The NSE Nifty Auto Index, the third worst performer among sectoral gauges so far this month, is set for its poorest May in six years.

The benchmark was weighed down by rising crude oil and commodity prices, and subdued January-March earnings of automakers. Tata Motors Ltd., TVS Motor Company Ltd., and Ashok Leyland Ltd. have fallen the most and are also headed for their worst decline in May since 2012.
