U.S. Petroleum Exports Rise to Record as Count Changes: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. exports of crude and refined products rose 36 percent last week to 5.74 million barrels a day, partly thanks to a change in how the government counts exports. The Energy Information Administration is using near-real-time data rather than estimates based on monthly Census reports, so the numbers swing more from week to week. Propane exports alone rose 651,000 barrels a day to 1.075 million, a total that “seems pretty unsustainable,” said Kendall Puig, senior analyst at S&P Global Platts Bentek in Denver. “It’s definitely a timing issue.”
