Why Chemistry Class Is the Key to Commodities

(Bloomberg) --

When you think of the Periodic Table of Elements, what comes to mind? Maybe chemistry class, or flashbacks to memorizing combinations of letters and numbers. But what about markets? This week on “What Goes Up,” the team behind Bloomberg Businessweek’s latest issue joins to make the connection.

“Commodities are a huge market,’’ says Joel Weber, editor of the magazine and this week’s guest co-host. “And when you actually think about the Periodic Table of Elements, not with a chemistry class in mind, but a business one, effectively we’re talking about commodities.’’

Also joining the podcast is Bloomberg’s Jeremy Keehn and Eddie van der Walt, who discuss elements from gold and silver to helium and gallium.
