Zimbabwe’s Second-Biggest City Limits Water to Two Days a Week

(Bloomberg) --

Zimbabwe’s second-biggest city will cut off water supplies for 108 hours a week because of depleting resources.

The restrictions come into effect in Bulawayo on Wednesday and are being enforced because of low dam levels caused by a drought, Town Clerk Christopher Dube said in an emailed statement.

“Drawing of raw water from the dams is increasingly becoming a challenge,” he said. All residential areas will be affected under the new schedule, with an exemption extended to industrial areas, mines and the central business district, Dube said.

Bulawayo, home to at least 650,000 people, began rationing water last year to conserve dwindling resources.
