Yemen's Army Intelligence Chief Dies of Drone Attack Wounds

(Bloomberg) -- Yemen’s military intelligence chief died Sunday from wounds sustained in a rebel drone attack on a military parade, the Defense Ministry said.

Major General Mohammed Saleh Tammah is the highest-ranking casualty of the assault on Thursday, which also killed six soldiers immediately, according to the Aden Alghad newspaper. The military chief of staff, his deputy and the governor of southern Lahj province were wounded in the bombing at Yemen’s largest military base, Aden Alghad reported at the time.

The renewed hostilities are a setback for United Nations efforts to reduce tensions ahead of peace talks to end the war in Yemen, which has created the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe. Last month in Sweden, the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Shiite rebels agreed to a cease-fire covering a crucial Red Sea port city and a prisoner exchange.
