Vodafone Idea Ltd. has approached the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal against TRAI’s direction asking it to put on hold priority plans.

According to sources, Vodafone Idea has requested an early hearing on the matter. An email query sent to the firm on its appeal in TDSAT did not elicit a response.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has written to Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel Ltd., questioning them about their individual plans that promised faster speeds to certain priority users, the Press Trust of India reported on Sunday.

The regulator has asked if priority to high-paying customers in those specific plans came at the cost of service deterioration for other subscribers. TRAI has also asked them how they plan to protect the interest of other general subscribers.

On Monday, Vodafone Idea shares rose 0.10% to Rs 9.76 apiece on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex gained 0.27% to end the day at 36,693.69 points.
