Uber to Shut Food-Delivery Service in Hong Kong Next Month

Uber Technologies Inc. will soon cease food-delivery services in Hong Kong after five years to focus on its ride-hailing business.

“We have made the difficult decision to discontinue Uber Eats in Hong Kong” on Dec. 31, Uber said in a statement posted on its website.

Launched in 2016, Uber Eats competes with popular services operated by Deliveroo Plc and Delivery Hero SE’s Foodpanda.

The company, which counts Hong Kong as its biggest Uber Taxi business globally, said it will keep growing its other services. In August, announced it acquired local taxi-hailing app HKTaxi.
