U.S. Marine F/A-18, KC-130 Crash in Sea Off Japan

(Bloomberg) -- Search and rescue operations are underway for two Marine Corps aircraft that were involved in an incident off the coast of Japan around 2 a.m. Thursday, the U.S. Marine Corps said in a tweet.

Japanese national broadcaster NHK reported the aircraft, a KC-130 and an F/A-18 from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, collided in midair around 100 kilometers south of Kochi prefecture. Planes from Japan Air Self-Defense Force and Maritime Self-Defense Force are carrying out search and rescue and have rescued one person.

Two crew members were in the F/A-18 fighter jet and five were aboard the larger aircraft, according to NHK.
