Trump’s Energy Secretary Nominee Releases Campaign-Style Video

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump’s nominee to replace Rick Perry as Energy secretary is considered in many circles to be a shoo-in for the position. But apparently he isn’t taking any chances.

Dan Brouillette, who currently is the department’s No. 2 official, released a campaign-style video Friday, complete with dramatic music, lots of shots of himself with Trump, and slow-motion images wearing a hard hat and reflector shades.

“Mr. Brouillette has a long history of distinguished service I’m confident he’s up for the challenge and ready for this role,” Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Lisa Murkowski said in one of several voice-overs lauding the nominee.

Brouillette, who previously worked at the agency during the administration of George W. Bush, has been taking on increasingly high-profile roles, including sitting in for Perry at cabinet meetings. He was confirmed to his current position by a 79-17 vote in 2017.

Perry has said he plans to leave the department by Dec. 1.
