(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc.’s Model 3 sedan took command of the global electric-car market last year, outselling the nearest competitor by about 50 percent.

In its first full year on the market, Model 3 sales surged to about 138,000 units, easily beating the roughly 92,000 units for the EC Series car from China’s BAIC Group, according to JATO Dynamics Ltd. The researcher estimated that total battery-electric vehicle sales surged about 74 percent to 1.26 million industrywide in 2018.
