Sports Direct's Mike Ashley Discussing Rescue Bid for HMV: Sky

(Bloomberg) -- Sports Direct CEO Mike Ashley has met leading figures from the music industry to discuss a rescue bid for HMV, Sky News reported, citing sources.

• Ashley was one of a handful of parties to lodge formal offers with KPMG ahead of Jan. 15 deadline; unclear if bid was made through Sports Direct or another corporate vehicle
• Value of the offers for HMV was unclear, Sky said
• KPMG declined to comment on the identity of HMV bidders, Sky said; Sports Direct could not be reached for comment
• NOTE: KPMG said on Jan. 16 that a “number of offers” had been received and that it would be evaluating them over the coming days
