Spanish Grocer Mercadona in Talks to Sell 30 Stores to MDSR

Mercadona, Spain’s biggest supermarket chain by market share, is in talks to sell about 30 stores to Israeli fund MDSR Investments.

The portfolio is part of a 36-store package of properties Mercadona put on sale last year for 200 million euros ($243 million), a company spokeswoman said. Separately, Mercadona sold a package of 27 stores with a 15-year leaseback to LCN Capital Partners for 180 million euros last year.

A spokeswoman for MDSR declined to comment on the talks.

MDSR has previously taken over other Spanish food retail properties. It bought 21 supermarkets for 51 million euros from Patrizia Immobilien AG in 2019 and acquired a portfolio of seven hypermarkets for 150 million euros from Tristan Capital in 2017.
