Shoppers Stop Appoints Westside’s Venugopal G. Nair As MD And CEO

The appointment, effective Nov. 6, 2020, is subject to shareholders’ approval.

Shoppers Stop Ltd. has appointed Trent Ltd.’s Venugopal G. Nair as managing director and chief executive officer to replace Rajiv Suri, who had resigned in July.

The appointment, effective Nov. 6, 2020, is subject to shareholders’ approval, the apparel retailer said in a filing to the stock exchanges on Saturday.

Nair, at present, is CEO of Westside, the apparel retail chain of Tata Group-owned Trent. He has 27 years of experience in the industry and will lead the next phase of expansion for the K. Raheja Group firm. “We believe that Venu is the right person to lead Shoppers Stop in this critical phase and its next phase of growth," Chairman B.S. Nagesh said in the statement.

Before Westside, Nair was the MD of Marks & Spencer Reliance Pvt. Ltd. He has held leadership roles with various corporates, including Marks & Spencer Plc, Madura Garments and Arvind Ltd.

Shoppers Stop is a retailer of fashion and beauty brands and operates 88 department stores in 44 cities. The company had reported a revenue of Rs 3,380.98 crore in 2019-20. It also operates premium 11 home concept stores, 135 specialty beauty stores of M.A.C., Este Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Smash box, Jo Malone and Arcelia.
