SAP to Transition 27,000-Vehicle Fleet to Electric Cars by 2030

SAP SE is transitioning its fleet of 27,000 corporate cars to emission-free autos, and from 2025 will no longer allow the ordering of vehicles with combustion engines.

The software company expects the fleet -- the bulk of which is in Germany -- to be fully electric by 2030, Chief Financial Officer Luka Mucic said in an interview.

Germany has not yet mandated a set date for when it wants to phase out fossil-fired cars, but the European Union has proposed that member states stop selling cars with any emissions no later than 2035.

Mucic said EVs currently make up about 20% of the company cars used by SAP employees. The company plans to spend millions of euros building charging stations near its offices and developing software to connect them to back-office systems, he said.

The CFO, who’s also SAP’s board sponsor for sustainability efforts, said he expects financial benefits alongside the reduction in emissions, such as lower repair and fuel costs.
