Record Scotch Sale Postponed After Cyber Attack on Auctioneer

(Bloomberg) -- A record online auction of rare scotch whiskies has been postponed following a cyberattack, according to a statement from the auctioneer’s website.

WhiskyAuctioneer.com, which has been hosting the sale of Colorado businessman and philanthropist Richard Gooding’s collection, said in a statement on its website on Saturday that it was targeted in a cyber attack on April 21 and has postponed the second part of the auction indefinitely.

The sale, which included bottles from names such as Macallan, was the largest private whisky collection ever to hit the auction block, the WhiskyAuctioneer.com said last December.

The first part of the collection, which included more than 1,900 bottles, made more than 3.2 million pounds ($4 million) earlier this year, the Press Association Scotland reported. The second part, which was made up of 1,958 lots, went up on the website on April 10.
