KEI Industries Ltd. said it expects cable orders to go up by 15-20 percent as the country prepares for a complete electrification of Indian Railways in the next four years.

“Whether a train is run by diesel or electricity, the cables we supply are meant to send signals and power support to the tracks. But definitely with the electrification, the uses of cable will go up,” Chairman and Managing Director Anil Gupta told BloombergQuint in an interaction. “It may go up by 15-20 percent in terms of cable usage in case of electric locomotives.”

The Union cabinet in September had approved a proposal for complete electrification of Indian Railways over the next four years, covering more than 13,000 kilometers and spending more than Rs 12,000 crore.
