Port Authority Pauses LaGuardia AirTrain as It Reviews Project

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey will pause work on the AirTrain to LaGuardia airport as the authority undertakes review of the project at Governor Kathy Hochul’s request, the agency said in a statement.

Hochul has asked the Port Authority to study alternative mass transit options to the airport. Critics of the $2.1 billion project, which was championed by former Governor Andrew Cuomo,  have said the project is too expensive and would attract few riders because it would take more time than taking a bus.

“The agency will work in close consultation with independent experts and stakeholders, and will complete its work as expeditiously as possible, consistent with the need for the review to be thorough and rigorous,” the agency said.
