Philippines Imposes Partial South Korea Travel Ban

(Bloomberg) -- The Philippines will ban travel to South Korea, while also prohibiting the entry of travelers coming from North Gyeongsang province.

“Travel to South Korea will be temporarily suspended” with certain exceptions, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a televised briefing in Manila on Wednesday.

Filipinos who are permanent residents, leaving for study or employed in South Korea will be allowed to leave, provided they sign a declaration understanding the risk of travel, Salvador Panelo, spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte, said in a separate televised briefing.

Government will decide within two days if there’s need to expand ban to include travelers coming from other parts of South Korea, Panelo said.
