Not Such Big Spending to Celebrate the Big Game This Year
(Bloomberg) -- Of the estimated 186.6 million U.S. adults planning to watch Super Bowl LV on Sunday, some 86% are expected to make purchases for the occasion, with food and beverages the most popular, according to the National Retail Federation. But, in a sign of the pandemic times, total spending is forecast to drop 19% this year to $13.9 billion -- or $74.55 on average per person -- the lowest since 2014. A whopping 72% of respondents to the group’s annual survey -- 23 percentage points higher than last year -- said they had no party plans.
