Nomura Hires BNP's Nanavati to Head Asia ex-Japan TMT Deals

(Bloomberg) -- Nomura Holdings Inc. has hired Jwalant Nanavati from BNP Paribas SA to head telecommunications, media and technology dealmaking in Asia excluding Japan.

Nanavati, a managing director, is based in Hong Kong and reports to Kenji Teshima, Nomura’s head of investment banking for Asia ex-Japan, according to an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg. A spokesman for Nomura confirmed the contents of the memo.

At BNP, Nanavati was co-head of TMT investment banking for Asia Pacific, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has been in investment banking for more than 17 years, including posts in New York and India, the memo shows. Nanavati previously worked at Deutsche Bank AG and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

Mergers and acquisitions activity in the TMT sector has been increasing. The volume of deals in the industry involving companies from Asia ex-Japan, has risen about 10 percent this year to $283.6 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Nomura this year appointed Vijay Karwal as head of health care for Asia ex-Japan and Wei Chen as a managing director in its China investment banking team, Bloomberg News reported in September. Karwal was previously at U.S.-based health-care services provider DaVita Inc. Chen joined the Japanese bank from VTB Capital.
