(Bloomberg) -- India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the establishment of a trust to build a temple for the Hindu God Ram in the northern town of Ayodhya, where a 16th century mosque was razed in 1992.

The parcel of 67.7 acres of land, the control of which was granted to Hindu groups by India’s Supreme Court in November 2019, will be developed as a religious site, Modi told the Parliament on Wednesday, three days ahead of elections to vote in a new state government in the capital Delhi.

The Muslims’ Sunni Waqf Board will be given a separate parcel of five acres elsewhere in the state of Uttar Pradesh, as per court orders, Modi said.
