McDonald’s Sets Net-Zero Greenhouse Emissions Target by 2050

McDonald’s Corp., one of the world’s largest buyers of beef, said on Monday it’s targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2050.

The burger chain, which has more than 39,000 restaurants in 119 countries, said it was working with the Science Based Targets initiative group to evolve climate change goals it had set in 2018.

Since then, the company’s efforts have reduced restaurant and office emissions by 8.5% against a 2015 baseline, and reduced the pollution of its supply chain emissions by 5.9%, McDonald’s said.

McDonald’s will delegate some responsibilities to its local teams to implement solutions such as increasing renewable energy usage, regenerative farming and sourcing sustainable packaging materials, the company said.
